project: focused devotion

God, I can push the grass apart
And lay my finger on Thy heart!

With the long tradition of Christians exploring their faith through the poetry they write, isn’t it odd that we see so little of those poems? Let’s change that.

In a Christian intellectual culture that encourages close reading grounded in the whispers of the Holy Spirit, I want to use those skills to walk alongside our sister and brother poets — reading their poems, connecting them with Scripture, and turning our shared revelation out towards the world.

I’ve developed a nine-week class of Christian devotional poems from all periods of English-language writing, set with selected Psalms. An intimate group put it through its paces in winter 2015.

Sorry, I’m no longer happy with this version! I’m working on something more full-featured… I’m even woodshedding a couple of options!
